A relaxer is a sort of lotion or cream that makes hair simpler to straighten by chemically "relaxing" the natural curls. It is commonly used by those with tight curls or highly curly hair. Although some formulations are based on ammonium thioglycolate or formaldehyde, the active agent is usually a strong alkali.
